AUSTIN SALTILLO SISTER CITIES REVEALS “EL GRITO” POSTER CONTEST WINNER
“Viva la América” by local artist Fidencio Durán is the winning entry of the 2025 El Grito Poster Contest sponsored by Austin Saltillo Sister Cities (ASSCA) and Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation. The painting will serve as the poster image of the Mexican Independence Day Celebration. Durán´s artwork documents how the Priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rallied Mexican peasants to take up arms against the Spanish crown, igniting the Mexican Independence liberation movement in 1810 that was consummated in 1821. The painting also highlights other heroes like the co-conspirators Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez and Ignacio Allende. The winning entry will be on display in the lobby of the Mexican Consulate, 5202 E Ben White Blvd #150, Austin, TX 78741 from August to Sept. 15.
